What is saved in your browser
Everything the site remembers between visits, where it lives, and how to clear it.
Boring Tools has no accounts and no server-side storage of what you enter. Anything that is remembered between visits is kept in your own browser's local storage, on your device only. This page lists exactly what that is.
How to use it
- To clear one tool's saved content, open the tool and press its Reset button (confirm the warning where one appears).
- To clear everything, clear this site's data in your browser's settings (usually under Privacy or Site data).
Options & controls
Site-wide preferences
- Theme
- Light, Dark or System.
- Spacing
- Stored only when you pick Comfortable; Compact is the absence of a preference.
- Currency
- Stored only when you choose one; otherwise the region default is used.
- Metric / Imperial
- One shared choice for the BMI, Calorie and Concrete calculators.
- Favorites
- The list of tools you starred.
- Recently used
- The last six tools you opened.
Tools that remember what you entered
These tools keep their content so you can come back to it. Reset in each tool's title row clears it.
- Invoice & Receipt Generator
- Business and client names and addresses, invoice number and date, line items, tax rate and notes.
- To-Do List, Shopping List, Daily Planner, Home Budget Planner, Monthly Calendar
- Titles, every row and amount, notes, and your colour theme and page width.
- World Clock & Meeting Planner
- Your list of time zones, any custom names, and your clock appearance.
- Diagram Maker
- The shapes of your drawing and its undo history.
- Fullscreen Clock
- Your face, colours and display options.
Tools that remember nothing
- Everything else
- All the other tools — the developer and text tools, generators, converters, calculators, timers, the countdown timer and the photo editor — keep nothing. What you type or upload is gone when you refresh or close the tab. Where a tool offers Download, that is how to keep your work. The Investment Projector, for instance, saves your plan only through its Download and Load buttons.
Working offline
- Offline support
- Once a page has loaded, the site can serve it again without a connection. If you go offline, a banner says “You're offline — previously visited tools still work.” Pages you have never visited are not available offline.
Tips & guidelines
- On a shared or public computer, use Reset in the Invoice and Budget tools when you finish, or use a private browsing window, because they keep personal details.
- Local storage is per browser and per device. Your saved work does not follow you to another browser or computer.
- If your browser blocks storage (private mode, or storage turned off), the tools still work, but nothing is remembered.
Limits
- Because nothing is stored on a server, there is no way to recover data that has been cleared from your browser.
- Web hosting infrastructure may keep ordinary request logs; see the privacy page for details.
