Countdown Timer
Open toolCount down to any date or event, with an optional shareable link.
Count down, live, to any date and time — a launch, a holiday, an exam, a birthday — with days, hours, minutes and seconds ticking down. Give it a label, show it fullscreen on a screen or projector, and share a link that opens the same countdown for someone else.
How it works
The tool compares your device's clock with the target date and time once a second and shows the whole days, hours, minutes and seconds that remain. When the target is reached, the numbers are replaced by a celebration message: “🎉 <your label> has arrived!”, or “🎉 It has arrived!” if you gave no label.
The target and label are also written into the shareable link as ?to=…&label=…. Opening that link starts a countdown with the same target and label. Nothing is stored on a server: the details live in the link itself.
How to use it
- Open Countdown settings (below the timer).
- Choose the Target date & time and, if you like, type a Label.
- Watch the timer above update. Click Fullscreen for a full-screen display.
- To share it, click Copy next to Shareable link and send the link.
Options & controls
Countdown settings (click the heading to open or close)
- Target date & time
- A date-and-time picker in your local time zone. It starts as this moment tomorrow. If it is empty or incomplete, the timer shows “Set a target date below to start the countdown.”
- Label (optional)
- A name shown above the numbers, such as “Product Launch”. It is also used in the celebration message.
- Shareable link
- Read-only. A ready-made link for the current target and label; it appears whenever the target is valid.
- Copy
- Copies the shareable link.
Display
- Days / Hours / Minutes / Seconds tiles
- The time remaining. Days can be any size, since there are no months or years.
- Fullscreen
- Fills the whole screen with just the label and the countdown, on a plain background, for a wall display, a class or a stream. Press Escape or the button at the top right to leave. The page behind it stops scrolling while it is open.
- Reset
- In the title row. Sets the target back to a day from now and clears the label.
Tips & guidelines
- The link stores the date and time exactly as you see it, with no time zone. Someone opening it in another time zone counts down to that same clock time in their own zone, which is a different moment. For a worldwide event, agree on a time zone and tell people what it is, or use the World Clock to convert.
- The label and date are in the link, so anyone who has the link can read them. Do not put private information in the label.
- Nothing is saved when you close the page. Keep the shareable link (bookmark it) to return to the same countdown.
- Keep the tab open on a display, and the countdown continues to be right even if the browser slows a background tab, because it always works from your device's clock.
Limits
- It shows time remaining only, in days, hours, minutes and seconds. It does not count up after the target passes.
- Accuracy depends on your device's clock being set correctly.
- There is no sound or notification when the countdown ends; for an alarm, use the Stopwatch & Timer.
- Only one countdown at a time.
Saved in your browser
Nothing is saved in the browser. The target and label live in the page's address, so use the shareable link (or bookmark the page) to keep them.
