Turn a link, a piece of text, or your contact details into a QR code that any phone camera can scan, and download it as a PNG image.
How it works
The QR code is drawn in your browser from exactly the text you enter — nothing is uploaded, and the code contains the data itself rather than a redirect through a website. That means the code never expires and nobody can track its scans.
In Contact card mode, the fields are packed into a standard vCard (version 3.0) — the format phones understand as “add this contact”. Special characters in the fields are escaped automatically.
The image updates as you type.
How to use it
- Choose Text / URL or Contact card at the top.
- Enter the text or link, or fill in the contact fields.
- Adjust the Size slider if you want a bigger or smaller image.
- Check that the QR code appears, then click Download PNG.
- Scan the code with a phone camera to check it before you print or share it.
Options & controls
Mode
- Text / URL
- Encodes whatever you type. A web address starting with
https://opens as a link when scanned; any other text is shown as text. It starts filled with this site's own address so you can see a code straight away. - Contact card
- Encodes a contact that a phone offers to save. Each mode remembers what you typed in it while you switch back and forth.
Text / URL mode
- Text or URL
- A single line of text. Clear it and the QR code disappears.
Contact card fields
The code appears once at least one field has something in it.
- Full name
- The contact's display name.
- Phone
- A phone number, in whatever format you want it saved.
- An email address.
- Organization (optional)
- A company or group name.
- Website (optional)
- A web address for the contact.
Output settings and actions
- Size
- Slider from 128 to 512 pixels in steps of 32; the current size is shown in its label. Default: 256. It sets the size of the on-screen image and of the downloaded PNG.
- QR code image
- The live preview, with a small white border around it.
- Download PNG
- Saves the image at the chosen size as
qrcode.png. - Reset
- In the title row. Returns to Text / URL mode with the default address, clears every contact field, and sets the size to 256.
- Error message
- “Could not generate a QR code for this input.” — usually because there is too much text to fit in a QR code.
Tips & guidelines
- Scan it before you print it, and print it large enough. A rough rule is that the code should be at least 2 cm (about 1 inch) wide for close-up scanning, and bigger if people will scan from a distance.
- Shorter content makes a simpler, easier-to-scan code. If a link is long, use a shorter address.
- Keep the white margin and the dark-on-white contrast. Do not place the code on a busy background or invert its colours.
- For a PNG that will be enlarged, download at the largest size (512) rather than stretching a small one, which blurs the edges.
- Only encode contact details you are happy to share with anyone who sees the code.
Limits
- The code is black and white only, with a fixed error-correction level; there are no options for colours, a logo in the middle, or rounded corners.
- Only plain text, URLs and a contact card are supported — not Wi-Fi sign-in, email, SMS or payment codes.
- The contact card stores the full name as a single field, so some phones may show it in the “last name” slot.
- There is a maximum amount of data a QR code can hold (a few thousand characters). A very long text will produce the error message.
- Only PNG download is offered — no SVG or PDF.
