Fullscreen Clock

A stylish, customizable clock for a spare monitor, desktop, or phone — fullscreen, with the screen kept awake.

Turn any screen — a spare monitor, an old tablet, your phone on a stand — into a clean, good-looking clock. Pick a digital or analog face, choose colours, go fullscreen, and (where your browser allows) keep the screen from going to sleep.

How it works

The clock reads your device's time and time zone and updates every second. “Enter fullscreen” covers the whole page with the clock and, on browsers that support it, also switches the browser itself into fullscreen so the address bar and tabs disappear. Where that is not possible — for example, iOS Safari — the page still fills the screen without the browser's own fullscreen mode.

The clock always uses a dark background so it is comfortable in a dim room; this is independent of the site's Light/Dark theme setting.

Your choices are remembered in this browser, so the clock looks the same next time.

How to use it

Pick a Preset, or set the Face, Font, Background, Format and Accent yourself.
Tick or untick Show seconds, Show date, and Keep screen on while fullscreen.
Click Enter fullscreen.
Press Escape, or click the button at the top right of the screen, to leave.

Options & controls

Presets

One click sets the face, font, accent, background, 12/24-hour format, seconds and date. A preset never changes your Keep screen on choice.

Minimal: Digital, sans-serif, slate, solid background, 12-hour, date shown, no seconds.
Midnight: Digital, monospaced, amber, solid, 12-hour, no seconds, no date.
Neon: Digital, monospaced, violet, glow background, 24-hour, seconds shown, no date.
Ocean: Digital, sans-serif, sky, gradient background, 24-hour, date shown, no seconds.
Sunrise: Digital, sans-serif, rose, gradient background, 12-hour, date shown, no seconds.
Classic: Analog face, emerald, solid background, 12-hour, date shown.

Appearance

Face: Digital shows the time as numbers. Analog shows a round clock face with hands.
Font: Digital face only. Sans is a light, airy typeface; Mono is a fixed-width, techy one whose digits do not jiggle as they change.
Background: Solid is plain dark. Gradient fades from dark towards a tint of the accent colour. Glow adds a soft halo of the accent colour behind the digits (it has no effect on the analog face).
Format: 12h shows AM/PM; 24h shows a 24-hour clock. Applies to the digital face.
Accent: Six colour swatches — Slate, Sky, Emerald, Amber, Rose, Violet — for the digits, the analog hands, the glow and the gradient. The selected swatch has a ring around it.

Display options

Show seconds: Adds seconds to the digital time. It is disabled with the analog face (which draws its own second hand).
Show date: Adds the weekday, month and day beneath the clock, e.g. “Sunday, September 20”.
Keep screen on while fullscreen: Asks the browser not to dim or lock the screen while the clock is fullscreen. It is disabled, with “(not supported in this browser)”, where the browser has no such feature. If your device or battery saver refuses the request, the top corner of the fullscreen view says “Keep-awake unavailable”; when it works it says “Screen kept on”. It only applies while fullscreen and is released when you leave or switch tabs.
Reset to default: A small link that restores the default look (Minimal-style: digital, sans, slate, solid, 12h, no seconds, date shown). It leaves your Keep screen on choice alone.

Screens

Preview: The clock in a box at the top of the page, updating live as you change settings.
Enter fullscreen: The wide button under the preview.
Exit fullscreen (top right, in fullscreen): Leaves fullscreen. Pressing Escape does the same.

Tips & guidelines

For a bedside clock, use Midnight (amber, no seconds, no date) at low screen brightness so it does not disturb sleep.
On a phone or tablet, prop it up, plug it in, and turn on Keep screen on. Screens that stay lit all night use power and can wear an OLED display, so use it sparingly.
If Keep screen on is greyed out or fails, change your device's auto-lock or sleep setting to “Never” while the clock is in use.
For a different time zone, the World Clock has a clock face for each city; this tool always shows your device's own time.

Limits

It shows only your device's local time, not other time zones, alarms or timers.
The date is shown in English.
Keep-awake depends on browser support and your device's power settings, and does not work in every browser.
The clock shows the time from your device's clock, so it is only as accurate as that.

Saved in your browser

Your appearance choices (face, font, background, format, accent, seconds, date, keep-awake) are saved in this browser's local storage so they are there next time. Nothing is sent anywhere. Reset to default restores the defaults.
